Medicine and Walking the Wheel

Simply put, Medicine is the core essence of a person, place or thing. It is anything that deepens your relationship with Spirit and returns or brings you closer to balance and harmony. Your Medicine is your wisdom, that which you gain through the experiences of life and that which you give away to the world. Some would say your power.

Walking the Medicine Wheel is a sacred journey of initiation, where we are all apprentices to nature. This is deeply moving and challenging work that shifts how we ‘see’ ourselves and how and where we are in the world.

This Sacred Circle is a mirror of the organization of the universe.

The Four Directions and the wheel`s centre provide the organizing principle for everything that exists in the world:

The Elements, The Seasons, The 4 symbolic Races, The Stages of the cycle of Life, The Emotions and Aspects of Human Behavior, The 4 humours.

In this circle of knowledge, we discover how to source information and guidance through direct revelation with Spirit Guides, Teachers and Ancestors. This pathway to wholeness guides us through the natural cycles of life and its inherent stages of change. It is a map of transformation and a way of knowledge, not a set of beliefs. Through working with the Wheel, we know where we are, our place in the universe, and we know our relationship to the world around us. By becoming our own authority, we are then better able to be the author of our own destiny.

Knowledge becomes wisdom when it is yours, not someone else’s…….

The original name for Medicine Wheels was Sacred Circle. Though they are used primarily in North American Aboriginal Medicine, they are found all over the world in many forms. Their use and purpose  are culturally specific.

Medicine Wheels represent the power of the circle and peaceful connectivity to all beings. Primarily a metaphor for life and an internal mirror reflecting back to us, the Medicine Wheel is many things….

Now we are fully in the South On the Medicine Wheel. Summer Solstice celebrates the Sun at the height of it’s power, the element of Fire and the promise of the harvest. All life flourishes and Earth Mother is resplendent. For us, her Human Children, it is a time of progress, creation, passion and personal expression. With the mental and emotional balance between Air and Water on the Wheel, it is a time of health, vitality, strength and potency.

The Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round….The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours….Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves.

The stone people are the wisdom keepers and teachers of many cultures. They are offered to us from Mother Earth and are the keepers of her teachings and messages and are a direct connection to her heart and wisdom. If we but listen, they have much to tell us.

For each of us, there is a special stone, an earth stone, a spirit stone that will put itself in your path when you are ready to see it. Some believe they were chosen for us in time out of mind. This is your heart stone, power stone, wotai stone. However you name it, call it with intention and it will make itself visible to you. It may be a stone you have had for a long time and not ‘seen’. It may be waiting on your walkway or on the beach. It will call you, you will see it and you will know it. You will sense it’s particular energy and ability to ground and balance you.

These Spirit stones offer vision, guidance and protection. Bringing their own stories, they teach us what our gifts and talents are and how to live in harmony on this planet and with all things. They are a Spirit Guide that connects deeply and teaches wisely.

There is great comfort in working with the stone people. Great wisdom to be had and great joy in honouring them.
